If you're in the process of submitting an application but find yourself stuck because one of the required fields is marked with an asterisk (*), don't worry! It may be possible to proceed without having all of the necessary information at hand.

In some cases, not all required fields apply to every circumstance, and in those cases you need to look for an alternate approach. In this article, we'll walk you through your options when the application you want to submit asks for information you can't provide.

⚠️ Note: These options should only be used after you’ve exhausted all other avenues. Please make sure your application includes as much accurate information as possible - it makes the reviewer’s job much easier and helps avoid delays.

✏️ Option 1: Upload placeholder information

Scenario 1: Missing Information in a Required Field

This scenario occurs when you don’t have enough information to complete all the required fields. A common example is when the application form asks for contractor information, but the applicant is performing the work themselves.

In such cases, a viable option is to enter placeholder information for the missing required fields - this allows you to proceed with submitting the application. The placeholder information should be as accurate as possible, even if not fully complete.

Scenario 2: Missing Documentation

If the application requires a document that doesn’t apply to your situation, you may upload a blank file in its place and include a note in the "Additional Files" section.

In your note, explain the situation to the reviewing staff - let them know you were unable to provide certain documents at the time of submission and have included placeholder information instead.

🔔 Option 2: Notify Your Jurisdiction Representatives

Alternatively, you can reach out to the representatives in your Jurisdiction to inform them that you cannot proceed with your application because of a required field that you cannot complete. We recommend reaching out to the key contacts in their GovWell portal
